Mealtimes

Mealtimes: Healthy eating, independence and positive routines

Mealtimes are an important part of our day, giving children the chance to enjoy nutritious food, develop independence and build social skills in a calm, supportive environment.

Nursery mealtimes

Our nursery children eat in their classroom, supported closely by their key people. This familiar environment helps them feel secure and confident as they learn routines such as serving themselves, trying new foods and sitting together as a group.

 Pre‑school mealtimes

Pre‑school children usually eat lunch in the school hall. This helps prepare them for the transition to Reception by introducing them to the lunchtime routines they will experience when they move up. Staff are always on hand to guide, encourage and support children as they grow in independence.

Freshly cooked meals on‑site

All meals are prepared on site by our professional catering team, Caterlink. Each day, children can choose from a range of healthy options including:

  • A meat‑based hot meal
  • Vegan and vegetarian dishes
  • Pasta
  • Jacket potatoes
  • Sandwich choices

Meals are charged at £2.53 per day.

Alternatively, a healthy packed lunch can be bought in from home. We ask that children do not bring fizzy drinks, sweets or chocolate to nursery. We are a healthy nursery, and we promote a balanced diet for all of our pupils.

We are a nut – free setting.

Snacks throughout the day

We provide a variety of healthy snacks to keep children energised and ready to learn. These include fresh fruits, vegetables and a selection of carbohydrate‑based options. Snacks are available at different points in the day to support children’s individual needs and routines.

Voluntary Contribution

Parents are asked to make a voluntary £2.50 contribution each day. This helps cover the cost of snacks, additional activities and consumable resources that enrich the children’s learning experiences.

Allergies

If your child has a food allergy or intolerance, please let us know and we will ask you to complete a Health Care Plan.

We work in collaboration with Caterlink to ensure good communication regarding medical diets and the required documentation. We will be able to support you by providing Caterlink's medical diet policy and request form, supporting you to complete the documentation if required, sharing medical diet menus and providing a photo for identification of pupils following a Caterlink medical diet menu
